HP Elite X3: The So-Called Best Continuum Smartphone Phone:
Reconsideration for the Elite X3 Smartphone, many questions raised abut the use of the phone as desktop, laptop & smart phone but all this have been made possible by the use of Windows 10 Mobile & Continuum. Although the Microsoft range of smartphones like Lumia 950 & 950 XL has also similar features but the broader ecosystem of HP hardware & infrastructure supported the vision quite very excellently.
HP has designed the Elite X3 & equipped it with such features demanding their potential users to use it like a Windows Tablet having telephony abilities & also capable of running real desktop Windows apps through HP Workspace. HP has always believed in experimenting & bringing up some extraordinary features to their potential users. However, it has also failed sometimes like the disastrous webOS failure a few years back. With multiple ports included inside it, a display port also embedded, 2 USB-A ports, a USB Type-C port & an RJ-45 Ethernet jack for faster LAN connectivity is also included within the Desk Dock.
- HP Lap Dock: For the easy mobility this one is made to push the Elite X3’s OS to the Lap Dock with a 48 hrs of battery. It having no CPU, RAM or any Harddisk support on its own but all that comes from the phone itself. From the above description, it is very clear about the use & experience of the Elite X3. There is no need that you should be having all the components in order to enjoy the X3 experience. Without the Docks, you can just enjoy the full smartphone features of the HP Elite X3 as a Windows Phone.
Let’s talk about the Features of the all new HP Elite X3 one by one:
Elite X3’s Battery:
While having a powerful battery of 4150 mAh, it is not much massive but its quite bigger. As providing much more power backup than the Galaxy S7 Edge (550 mAh less battery) & iPhone 7 Plus (1250 mAh less battery power), it only weighs about 195 grams which are found to be just 7 grams more than the iPhone 7 Plus.
Battery backup of the Elite X3 is very good as it backs it up for the whole day without getting drained easily. While testing it since last few weeks I never had to complain about the battery back up. While HP claims it to be giving 18 hours of regular use backup & According to my use it was almost able to fulfill the said backup time.
Featuring the Qualcomm Quick Charge 3.0 technology almost 78-80% of charge is very easily achievable by just charging it for 70-75 minutes. Very approximately it could achieve a percent gain in battery power per minute if said broadly.
Hardware & Design:
All the 3 components listed above features with a very impressive quality. The Elite X3 is also made Liquid & Dust proof to an IP67 rating also passing away the military drop tests. With the placements of the buttons & refinements in addition to the AMOLED display is very easily able to nail the design. A very powerful vibrator this time will never allow you to miss even a single notification.
The HP Elite X3 is equipped with two front firing speakers from Bang & Olufsen. This was an outstanding addition to the Windows mobile device by B & o. Making audio calls via conferencing or Skype chatting will give a Veeru good to the first time users.
Featuring a 5.96″ WQHD AMOLED display with a resolution of 2560 x 1440. Having Gorilla glass 4 used for the display, reading anything on it makes easier with much brighter & contrasting display. No, any glance screen features will be enabled lie the Lumia series but HP may add to it using the technology from Microsoft, sometimes later.
As the Windows 10 mobile is found to be more CPU intensive than the predecessors, so performance is almost good with the newly equipped Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor which is clocked at 2.15 GHz speed, that makes it the fastest Windows mobile device overall. If talking about the calling features, we get excellent reception on the Elite X3 & hence providing good voice clarity without call drops.
Equipped with a 16 megapixel f/2.0 rear camera you will be getting better photos like any other phone of the range. It almost approaches the quality of the Nokia being a no-Lumia device, flash is also better than expected. Featuring an 8-megapixel front facing camera that is Full HD, specially optimized for video conferencing via Skype over Wi-Fi & LTE.
As mentioned earlier, the Elite X3 connects easily with the Desk Dock or a USB Type-C dongle through the Ethernet provided, achieving an excellent upload & download speeds of up to 100 Mbps.
HP this time brings up the Elite X3 with an iris scanner & a fingerprint scanner for Biometric Authentication for full proof security as per day to day requirement.
Price & Availability:
This prime device from HP is available for about $699, which is a good amount but as per the very first Windows 10 mobile device from HP is considered, it is worthy of that. The Desk Docks are also available for about $150 taking up the price to $799. While a toss in the $599 Lap Dock will bring the complete X3 system at your home.
However, by the end of the month of October, it is supposed to be sold all together for a price of $1299 which will be a cheaper deal than buying them separately by $150.
