Wi-Fi Technology: What It Stands For? How Does It Work? Now in this Fast connecting modern era everyone is using a WiFi internet connection either directly or indirectly. Due to the faster-growing internet facilities throughout the world, the WiFi has become a basic need for even the middle classed peoples & has become a compulsory part of the corporate world. For easier & quick internet connections even the governments of different countries have also made arrangements for internet facility in local areas to be availed by their citizens through the use of WiFi only.

What Does WiFi Stands For?
Any guesses, sone of you may call it differently & may have listened to different theories associated with the term WiFi but the most widely accepted definition of the term WiFi is Wireless Fidelity. Now you know the term WiFi, half of the problem solved just by knowing the filled form of the abbreviation. Let’s move on to understand it more deeply.
Basically, the technology behind the wireless internet is like any traditional radio transmission in which current is passed from one antenna to another through an electromagnetic wave. Although WIFi uses a digital signal with a much more complex pattern of modulation to transmit the data in binary code. The technology is used to provide a wireless local area networking to such devices which are based on IEEE 802.11 standards. That is why wireless networking is also known as WiFi or 802.11 networking as it covers the IEEE 802.11 technologies or standards.
How Does It Work?
Whenever electric current is passed through an antenna, the electrons move in pattern while generating an electromagnetic wave. This microwave is transmitted through the antenna from this end & received from another antenna on the receivers end & excites the electron on that end. A similar electric current is generated over there but it is weaker than that at the transmission end. Now for transmitting information through these signals, the signals are variated & the information sent can be easily decoded at the receivers end.
WiFi uses a digital signal that includes a much more complex pattern of modulation including Amplitude modulation, Phase modulation & much more encodings to transmit data in the form of ones & zeros binary codes. Our routers are tiny computers which plug into the internet & convert electrical signals into a digital signal that is transmitted through an antenna as a microwave radiation. Similarly, our computers also have an antenna to receive signals which are then decoded & transmitted to send back data to the router.
Future Of WiFi?
As per demands & popularity & even basic needs as said the earlier need for faster data transmission is increasing day by day. Evolution in terms of technology is already on its way & modification in the tech to avail maximum benefits has already funded a way out. Early WiFi used 2.4GHz microwave frequency to transmit data which is lower than the current frequency of 5 GHz.
Different standards of WiFi transmit different data frequencies like The 802.11a will transmit data at a frequency of 5 GHz while, the 802.11b will do the transmission at 2.4 GHz. The most advanced 802.11n can transmit a maximum of 140 megabits of data per second using a frequency of 5 GHz. In future technology called Passive WiFi could also reside where devices will require thousands of times the lesser electrical power to access the WiFi network.
