Microsoft Is Considering USB Type-C To Power Up: Suggests New Surface Design Patent: We all are aware of the most awaited product from Microsoft i.e Surface & now many guesses regarding the technology behind are getting revealed through various design patents. Another new Microsoft Design Patent is out there for the Surface on 28th of March, 2017 most likely these changes will all be as expected but it is yet to get clear that whether it will be going for actual production or not. It also may be just another way of preventing the idea thus locking it through patenting to prevent the company getting into tougher competitions.
Microsoft Is Considering USB Type-C To Power Up: Suggests New Surface Design Patent:
Originally the design patent i.e US D782,469 S was earlier filed in 2015 on 30th of March but later after few weeks it just got updated with the new drawings. As no any technical specifications have been specified on to the Surface being a Design patent, apparently some changes are there (i.e US D680,530 S0). Namely, these two changes include powering connector for the Surface been removed & the relocation of the headphone jack to the lower right from the upper left corner.
This USB Type-C port will not only be used as a powering source port with a PC or tablet but it can also be used for data, external GPU’s, peripherals & powering the 4K displays as well if have been configured for the Thunderbolt 3. Now along with Microsoft most of the other manufacturer’s have also tended to move from having a limited proprietary AC adapter to a standardized USB Type-C & that too preferably with full Thunderbolt 3 support.
Headphone jack shifting as suggested in the new design may also make some sense if considering the odd cord hanging when connected through the top corner. Although some negative reviews were there with the present Surface Pro 4 & Surface Book regarding this odd positioning of the headphone jack. So this change might be a welcoming one on the user’s end. Many more things like USB Type-A & Mini Display Port have also been shown up with the new design & hopefully, is going to remain with it this time.
